The Government today formalized the declaration of the "State of Water Emergency" for 180 days in the Paraná river basin region due to the historic downspout that affects the provinces of Formosa, Chaco, Corrientes, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, Misiones and Buenos Aires.
The declaration of the "Water Emergency", implemented through decree 482/21, published this Monday in the Official Gazette, empowers the Chief of Cabinet, Santiago Cafiero, in his capacity as president of the National Council for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, to "delimit the areas affected by the emergency."
The decision was made as a result of the "impact and consequences that the most important historical drop in the last 77 years is generating in the water account of the Paraná, Paraguay and Iguazú rivers," according to the government in a statement.
Similarly, the decree
instructs different areas of the Government to adopt measures to "mitigate the consequences of the serious situation generated by the downspout."
Thus, the Ministries of Productive Development and Labor will establish the pertinent actions for the preservation of productive activity and jobs;
Public Works will arrange and monitor the execution of infrastructure works;
Security, through the National System for Early Warning and Emergency Monitoring (Siname), will plan support measures and decision-making, and through the National System for Comprehensive Risk Management (Sinagir), it will assist riverine populations.
In this line, Environment and Sustainable Development will maintain fire control.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport "will observe the possibilities of navigation and access to ports; the National Water Institute will provide its technical services in relation to the emergency; the Ministry of Energy will ensure the supply of electricity and the Ministry of the Interior will It will be in charge of coordinating with the affected provinces. "
For their part,
Banco Nación and AFIP will provide assistance in credit and tax matters,
respectively.
Likewise, the suspension of administrative deadlines in the affected regions is defined, according to the Government.
The current downspout of the Paraná is the most important in the country in the last 77 years.
The deficit of rainfall in the Brazilian basins of the Paraná River and the Iguazú River and the drought are determining factors that generated the current situation.
