Just one day after the longest-serving player in the squad, defender Fabian Weyrich, had given his approval for two more years in the ECP jersey, the league team announced another positive change for him. Striker Simon "Simmerl" Maier will strengthen the Peitinger attack for another year. “We don't really need to talk much about him. He's a snap, ”says the new Peitinger coach Anton Saal, who played as a player with Maier for many years in the same storm row, about the contract extension.

A look at the statistics confirms the 34-year-old's nose for goals, who, like Saal, comes from Bad Bayersoien. Maier has collected 216 points (105 goals) since his return to the ECP in 2015. In addition, there are another 47 games and 27 scorer points for the Peitinger team in the 2006/07 season. In between, Maier was very successful for SC Riessersee (2004 to 2006, 2007 to 2009 and 2010/11), Schwenninger Wild Wings (2010/11) and Deggendorf (2011/12 and 2013 to 2015) in the 2nd division and active in the big leagues. "Simmerl is a very valuable player for us," says ECP team manager Gordon Borberg about the assistant captain, who never avoids a duel and who throws himself into every shot.

"He's a worker who can score goals, but who is also very important for the team if he doesn't score," emphasizes Borberg. But that's not the only reason why Maier is one of the leading players in the Peitinger team: "Simmerl has a very well-founded opinion on many topics and he does a lot of little things right," said Borberg in praise of the winger. He is indispensable for the club, "and that's why we're very happy to have him on the team," continued Borberg. Maier has now completed almost 580 second division and upper division appearances in his career.
