New technology, new ways, new baker: the large Edeka full-range retailer on Münchner Strasse is taking a two-month break to modernize the store.

When it reopens on December 2nd, customers can expect some new features.

Holzkirchen

- For a good two weeks there have been no shelves, no refrigerated compartments, no fresh food counters. The cash registers are expanded. Small wheel loaders and excavators drive around where customers used to reach for food. Craftsmen stand on ladders. Building materials are stored in the parking lot; where this is not the case, the old asphalt is already being milled off. The Edeka market on Münchner Strasse, an important supply base for the western residential areas of Holzkirchen, was transformed into a major construction site at the beginning of October.

"It will be a complete renovation," says Christian Strauss, press spokesman for Edeka Südbayern.

The association operates the full-range supplier on its own (Edeka in the HEP shopping center is run by the independent entrepreneur Dino Melic).

As Strauss explained, the old layout and fittings no longer met the requirements of a future-proof market.

“That is why we are investing in the location.” According to the press spokesman, a “well-seven-figure sum” is going into the renovation.

Costs are shared between the owner, landlord and operator

Edeka does not bear the costs alone, they are spread over three shoulders. The building itself belongs to the neighboring company Isartaler Holzhaus (Inselkammer family) and has been leased to BVG Verwaltungs GmbH, which looks after the Vinzenzmurr family of entrepreneurs Brandl, on a long-term basis. Owners and sub-landlords are also investing. “The costs are shared between the three parties involved,” says Christian Schmeichel, who is responsible for letting at BVG. The basic renovation had become necessary "because we want to remain competitive with this Edeka". Over 40 workplaces are attached to the site.

The outdated heating, ventilation and cooling technology are being fundamentally renewed.

In addition, the 1,600 square meters of retail space will be given a different layout.

"We are changing the shop fittings and the design significantly," announced the Edeka spokesman;

one wants to emphasize the freshness and service competence more strongly.

According to Schmeichel, additional openings are planned between the two parts of the hall.

Entrance and cash registers remain in the usual place.

Newly added in the pre-checkout area is the Bakery Wünsche, a wholly owned subsidiary of Edeka Südbayern;

Bread and baked goods as well as snacks are offered indoors and outdoors.

The previous prepayment baker Ihle can now be found at the competition, Rewe in Tegernseer Straße.

In the future there will be a packing station in the parking lot

The parking lot is being thoroughly refurbished and renovated at the same time.

According to Schmeichel, the area will be given a fresh asphalt surface;

Green areas and lighting are being renewed.

In the rear of the large parking area in the west, the Post subsidiary DHL is setting up a packing station where parcels can be picked up or dropped off.

The completely redesigned Edeka is due to open on Thursday, December 2nd.

"Customers can look forward to a new market and are happy to be surprised," says the Edeka spokesman.

The supermarket has been operating as an association-managed Edeka since 2017. Before that, a Tengelmann (since 2011) had been supplying customers at the same location, who had inherited the Melic-Edeka, which had moved to the newly opened HEP in 2010 as the anchor tenant.

August Inselkammer built a self-service market on the site as early as 1979;

For a long time, until the mid-noughties, the supermarket on Münchner Strasse was known as “Eurospar”.
