Electricity and gas: door-to-door sales in the crosshairs

DECRYPTION - Energy suppliers are pushing for EDF and Engie subscribers, who, for the most part, are still unaware that the market is open to competition.


The electricity and gas market employs hundreds of direct sellers roaming the streets of France to place subscriptions with individuals or SMEs. A practice assumed by some of the biggest players - such as Engie (in electricity), Eni or Iberdrola - to convince consumers to leave EDF's historical regulated sales tariffs

in electricity ... and Engie in gas - the latter will also be removed in 2023, exciting competition against the former GDF. Even EDF's service subsidiary, Sowee, practices it. This is not without causing slippages and other forced sales, echoed each year by the national energy mediator, Olivier Challan Belval.
