That beat the previous mark set two years ago with six statuettes.

Among the winners was Regina King, who won the award for best leading actress in a miniseries or television movie for her role in "Watchmen."

Her co-star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II prevailed in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie and scored her first Emmys.

Jones made a bit of history for himself alongside his daughter, Jasmine Cephas Jones.

They are the first father-daughter duo to win Emmy Awards the same year.

Also actor Laurence Fishburne won an award for his brief appearance on #FreeRayshawn.

His victories in these categories - along with RuPaul's fifth award for outstanding host on a reality or competition show and Reginald Hudlin as the first black producer of the awards ceremony - made this edition of the Emmys one of the most various so far.

Records of Emmy-winning black actors in 2020

Just this year, with protests and systemic racism debated in the country, 33% of the nominees in the Emmy performance categories were black.

This compared to 14% in the previous five years.

With his triumph, King won his fourth acting Emmy.

This ties Alfre Woodard's record as the black actress with the most wins.

The two recently worked together on a virtual reading of an episode of "The Golden Girls" with black actors.

Zendaya, 24, is the youngest person ever to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama.

She did it with her role as a troubled teenager in "Euphoria."

Zendaya surpassed the mark set by Jodie Comer, which she won at age 26 for her role in "Killing Eve" in 2019.
