Prosecutor Cecilia Incardona , who is pursuing the case for illegal espionage of political leaders, journalists and trade unionists, asked the new judge in the case, Juan Pablo Auge, to take an investigative statement from Gustavo Arribas and Silvia Majdalani , the head and the number two of the Federal Intelligence Agency (AFI) during the government of Mauricio Macri.
Incardona's request was turned over to the judge on Sunday, and, if the judge agrees, it could mark a turnaround in the case, which has so far focused on the investigation of the agents who were in charge of Alan Ruiz - the former chief of AFI counterintelligence, which remains in custody - but had not followed the leads to the officials who led the official intelligence apparatus between 2015 and 2019.
