Imprisoned in a foreign land:

For almost four months now, Esther Tavito, a 58-year-old mother of two from Netanya, has been detained in Morocco with an extradition request from the French authorities hovering over her head.

Twito, who also holds French citizenship, is wanted in the country on suspicion of fraud, but her family members claim that she is a completely normal woman who fell victim to the manipulation of her former employer.

According to the authorities in France, Twito established a straw company in the country that committed a fraud of hundreds of thousands of euros.

On the other hand, she and her family claim that the person who was her boss in France used her passport and personal information without her knowledge, thus entangling her in the case.

Twito was arrested immediately after she landed in Morocco together with her husband, in order to attend a friend's wedding.

Since then she has been held in difficult conditions in a prison near the capital Rabat.

Towards Yom Kippur, her family members renewed the pressure on the State of Israel to make greater efforts and bring about her release before the holiday, but currently the chances of this seem to be low.

According to her acquaintances, she is in a difficult state of mind, but maintains contact with her husband using calling cards that she purchases in prison.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with Twito and its representatives have visited her several times in detention, making sure to provide her with kosher food.

However, since this is a bilateral matter between France and Morocco, Israel's ability to act is limited.

Also, there is no way to verify if the accusations against Twito are substantiated or if she actually fell victim to a conspiracy.
