Berlin (dpa) - The final round of the soccer Europa League could take place in Frankfurt and the Rhein-Main area. According to the "Süddeutsche Zeitung", an application has been submitted to the European Football Union UEFA. It is said to be promising.
Like the Champions League, the competition was interrupted in the middle of the round of 16 due to the Corona pandemic in March. Now all outstanding games are to be played in one region in mid and late August.
Frankfurt was also interested in hosting the similarly designed Champions League final round. However, Portugal's capital Lisbon is now a favorite. The decision to host the two tournaments will be taken by the UEFA Executive Committee at its meeting on June 17 and 18.
In the Champions League, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are in the Bundesliga, in the Europa League Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg.
