The German artistic gymnasts surprisingly took third place at the European Championships in Munich and thus won bronze.

Sarah Voss, Kim Bui, Elisabeth Seitz, Emma Malewski and Pauline Schäfer-Betz convinced at the home European Championship with 158.430 points in the four-way battle.

The ranks of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) were only beaten by Italy (165.163) and Great Britain (161.164).

“I think you saw it, I felt everything at once: it was relief, it was joy, it was excitement, it was everything.

From the first step to landing, I felt like my team was yelling at me, floating me over the table.

It was such a special moment, it was all the feelings you can have,” said Sarah Voss about her emotional outburst after the last, decisive jump.

Not free from mistakes, but with strong nerves and with the much-vaunted team spirit, the German squad made their way through the team finals.

After a shaky exercise by Malewski on the balance beam, a weaker performance by Bui on the uneven bars compared to the qualification and a fall by Voss on the last acrobatic track on the floor, the long-awaited medal was uncertain.

But on the balance beam, the hosts of the European Championship decisively extended their lead over France, supposed rivals for the bronze medal.

All German athletes stayed on the "Zitterbalken", the French, on the other hand, had four relegations.

A win for Bui, who is doing gymnastics for the last time on Sunday

“It was a team effort at its finest.

And Kimi is still doing gymnastics like a young deer at the age of 33," commented Olympic bar champion Fabian Hambüchen on the ARD live stream.

»It is one of the best feelings at the moment to know that we have achieved this together as such a great team.

We carried ourselves through this competition together," said Bui herself, who will compete in the uneven bars final this Sunday for the last time before, as recently announced, she will end her career.

"I don't even want to think about that," said Elisabeth Seitz, who tearfully took the arm of the crying teammate.
