(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 12 - The examination and voting of the 398 amendments to the law on assisted suicide will begin tomorrow in the Justice and Social Affairs Commissions of the Chamber, in implementation of the sentence of the Constitutional Court two years ago which partially decriminalized this crime following the trial of Marco Cappato who helped Dj Fabo take his own life in Switzerland.
The amendments relate to the basic text drawn up by the rapporteurs Alfredo Bazoli (Pd) and Giuseppe Provenza (M5s) who attempt to summarize the eight bills presented and the decision of the Council. As the president of the Commission Mario Perantoni (M5s) observed, the limited number of amendments, "makes us appreciate the absence of any obstructionist will", even if in the past there has been a clear opposition to the law by the center-right, especially the League and the Fdi , while Pd and M5s are in favor of a rule that makes the sentence of the Constitutional Court applicable in practice. The total number of amendments is divided as follows between the groups: Pd 18; M5S 28; League 77; IV 23; FdI 89; FI 37; CI 69; Mixed 66.
The measure was scheduled in the Chamber on October 25th. (HANDLE).
