In order to boost their sales, companies from the USA imported "Black Friday". According to a survey, every second consumer now wants to hunt for bargains - and spend a lot of money in the process.

According to a survey, half of consumers in Germany want to go hunting for bargains on the “Black Friday” discount day.

Despite current delivery problems, consumer electronics, clothing and fashion accessories are right at the top of the shopping list, according to a representative survey by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) published last Friday.

On average, the bargain hunters want to spend significantly more this year than in the previous year, namely 340 euros (previous year: 205 euros).

This means that consumers in Germany significantly outnumber those in France (300 euros), Italy (280 euros) and Spain (260 euros).

Black Friday has become an integral part of the shopping calendar in Germany, according to the BCG experts.

According to the survey, the shopping event is particularly popular among the under-25s.

For the older ones, it doesn't play a very important role.

According to the survey, significantly more people want to use Black Friday this year to buy cheap Christmas gifts.

In-store shopping is becoming more popular

Online trading is likely to continue to play an important role, but it will no longer be as dominant as it was a year ago. In 2020, 57 percent of those surveyed stated that they only wanted to shop online on Black Friday, this year the figure was 53 percent. The proportion of those who want to hunt for bargains both online and in traditional shops, on the other hand, rose from 35 to 41 percent. Only 5 percent of consumers plan to only shop in stationary retail.

In the eyes of customers, the main advantages of online shopping are the convenience and the ability to avoid large crowds.

Almost one in three online shoppers, however, complained that delivery took too long in the past year.

A problem that BCG believes could become even more important this year due to the current delivery bottlenecks.
