Everything exhausted: only excavators can help against the daily traffic jams in Miesbach

Bayrischzeller Straße is Miesbach's dam.

The inner-city section of the B 472 is heavily used by both business and leisure traffic at the weekend.

The state building authority in Rosenheim has now turned all the technical adjusting screws.

Now only structural interventions help.

- What is usually not noticeable for road users: A traffic light system is a complicated matter. Switching the red and green phases of the traffic lights enables you to control the flow of traffic. The state building authority in Rosenheim has also done this for Bayrischzeller Straße. Many settings have been optimized based on a traffic report carried out by Siemens in 2017. But that is not enough, as department head Alexander Eisner and Andrea Oehler, head of the traffic light systems department at the State Building Authority, explained to the Miesbach construction committee on Tuesday evening. Their message: If you want to further improve the flow of traffic there, several places have to be rebuilt. There are four intersections to be observed when coming from the roundabout in the north.

Rosenheimer Strasse

The so-called former police intersection is the most complicated junction with a total of four left-turn lanes that have their own circuit.

The trick here is to keep phases that are not required in full as short as possible.

This is done by contacts in the ground.

But that does not work if left-turners coming from Rosenheimer Straße intersect the left-turn lane on the B 472 in the direction of Parsberg and thus trigger them.

“That's why we installed video cameras without data storage in addition to the radar detectors,” explained Oehler.

As a kind of visual support.

Structurally, widening the lane on the B 472 in the direction of Schliersee would be an option to allow the right-turns in the direction of Rosenheimer Straße to flow away more quickly.

Carl-Fohr-Strasse

The intersection area is comparatively unproblematic, explained Head of Department Oehler.

There are also backlogs here, but so far - unlike on Rosenheimer Straße - no accidents have been recorded.

However, a barrier-free expansion makes sense.

Schlierseer Strasse

The problem area here is the triangular island at the TV Miesbach gym.

It currently enables you to turn right without traffic lights.

The undesirable consequence: the zipper process practiced on Schlierseer Strasse means that traffic on the B 472 is noticeably and unregulated.

In addition, according to Oehler, the traffic island is too small for the many school children.

Even with a roundabout, the way to school would not be secured.

The solution could look like this: With the dismantling of the island, those turning right from Schlierseer Straße would have to wait at the traffic lights, and the B 472 could flow off as planned.

A roundabout is no solution at this point, says Eisner.

The required diameters of 40 to 60 meters are too large for this.

Stöger-Ostin-Strasse

The petrol station complicates the situation here, because, in addition to turning onto the 2010 state road in the direction of the city center, road users on the B 472 also have to watch out for those who want to turn right into the petrol station.

This could be solved structurally by relocating the gas station access.

In addition, with the dissolution of the dividing strip of greenery, Bayrischzeller Strasse could become two-lane and enable traffic towards Hausham and Gmund to be rectified earlier.

In general, so Eisner found, an expansion would also make sense because the intersections can be made barrier-free.

That means: lowering the curbs, placing an acoustic signal under the green phases.

And the city comes into play with the curb, because the sidewalks are their responsibility.

Committee member advises safe routes for cycling students

The department head of the building authority advised the committee to think about the construction work: "It would be beneficial to get the islands out and to restructure the intersections." This requires a planning concept.

Oehler emphasized that only a one-stop expansion would make sense in order to improve the flow of traffic and reduce congestion.

The committee unanimously approved further plans with the State Building Authority.

In addition, possibilities are to be explored with the traffic authority at the district office to reduce traffic noise at night.

Third Mayor Franz Mayer (CSU) had warned about this and also referred to the need for safe cycle path connections along the B 472.

Particularly with a view to cycling school children, more should be done to ensure their safety.
