The effects of the coronavirus claimed one more victim in the Tourism sector: the Eves travel agency closed its doors definitively, after 92 years of activity. It is the oldest company in the sector: it bears number 2 in the activity register, having started its activity in 1928. It was founded by José Ventura Pérez, with the name of Educational and Social Travel Entity (EVES), in the corner of Tucumán and Maipú, in the Buenos Aires downtown. And it was a pioneer in organizing the first graduate trips.

The firm was also a precursor in the organization of other unpublished trips: “the first river trips to the Iguazú Falls, the first cruises to the Rio Carnival, the first Ski Weeks to Bariloche, the first World Tour, the first Moons of Honey, Young People's first trips to Europe, the first trips to the Indianapolis 500 and to the unforgettable races of our five-time world champion, Juan Manuel Fangi, ”the company said in a statement.

“Through so many years of activity we have crossed numerous obstacles, which forced constant actions and efforts in order to maintain the quality of our professional service. However, the impact it has had on EVES, the extremely complex scenario, originated from the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences, does not allow us to visualize alternatives to sustain our operations in the short, medium and long term, in a sustainable way ” The statement continued, explaining the closure of the agency.

"This is a very difficult but regrettably inevitable decision, against which the company has made all possible efforts, and they did not reach, therefore EVES will stop offering its services in the national and international tourism market, from of June 30, 2020 ”, he pointed out.

The tourism crisis, especially impacted by the suspension of national and international flights following the pandemic, also put numerous other travel agencies, both emissive and receptive, on the ropes, which continue with a very low number of sales, almost nil, going through an unprecedented situation.

For this reason, the Argentine Federation of Associations of travel and tourism companies (FAEVYT), which houses more than 5,000 agencies, works together with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to alleviate the serious economic situation.

The Eves communiqué ends by clarifying to its customers and suppliers that “however, the company guarantees, as it has always done, the fulfillment of all the commitments assumed and in the face of the impossibility of opening the doors of our house, within the framework of the health emergency, we invite all those passengers who have purchased services and have their trip pending, to contact us, to receive personalized attention, with all the alternatives and responses to reschedule their canceled or future-dated reservations, for the following Channels: email: eves@eves.com.ar, or by phone 11-4560-4142.
