The hidden museum in Berlin has made another rediscovery in its search for forgotten female artists.

The result is with the exhibition “Louise Stomps.

Designing Nature - Sculptures 1928–1988 ”can be seen from this Friday until January 17th in the Berlinische Galerie.

Berlin - Around 90 sculptures and numerous drawings give an insight into the life's work of Stomps (1900–1988). In addition to some bronze sculptures, the focus is on the artist's preference for her work with wood. According to information from Thursday, the majority of the works come from internationally scattered private property. Only a few museums in Germany have works by Stomps; the Berlinische Galerie recently received a donation from the family.

Stomps began her artistic career early on with drawings.

It was only after the birth of two daughters and a divorce from her husband that she devoted her life entirely to art and attended classes in sculpture.

Much of the early work was destroyed in a bomb attack in her studio.

After the Second World War, her sculptures were shown in first exhibitions in Berlin.

During this time her works take on more and more threatening forms, from the point of view of the exhibition organizers a form of processing the experiences of war.

At the same time, the artist worked in soft, flowing forms.

Later the figures get slimmer.

The ratio of often enormous height and extreme slenderness is reminiscent of her contemporaries Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), especially in her bronze figures, whereby Stomps, in contrast to Giacometti, worked with clear, smooth surfaces.

With the exhibition, the Berlinische Galerie is once again hosting the hidden museum.

According to Thomas Köhler, director of the Berlinische Galerie, the exhibition on Lotte Laserstein, which was celebrated two years ago, ultimately goes back to the hidden museum.
