A tiny distance from the hotel where the nuclear talks between the powers and Iran are taking place, several activists against the ayatollahs' regime, Iranian exiles living in Vienna, have gathered to protest the international legitimacy the regime is killing its people and suppressing their individual freedoms.
The demonstrators posted pictures of senior ayatollahs, including President Raisi and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei
, wearing red Xs, as if to be eliminated, with the caption: Iran's terrorist leader.
Flags of the Shah regime that was overthrown in 1979 were hoisted over the posters. "We are the opposition to the terrorist regime in Iran," said one of them, Abbas.
When he found out I was from Israel, he said "hello" (in Hebrew).
"We believe in the need for democratic governance and freedom in Iran, and we are fighting for that goal," he said, pointing to a picture of the Shah's son who currently lives in the U.S. "We are fighting with him for democracy and freedom," he said.
Last week a major protest broke out in Iran in the city of Isfahan over the government’s intention to block a river and allocate water quotas to the population and farmers in the province.
The protest was suppressed with an iron fist by the Basij forces of the Revolutionary Guards and Mau Indians were arrested.
