Family drama in Lower Saxony: grandmother allegedly killed by grandson

In Delmenhorst, Lower Saxony, a 22-year-old said he killed his grandmother.

The police found the woman lifeless in front of her house.

Delmenhorst – On Sunday, August 7th, a young man from Lower Saxony is said to have killed his own grandmother.

The police are investigating, the suspect was temporarily housed in a psychiatric clinic.

On the phone, the dpa reports, the young man is said to have told relatives that he had caused his grandmother's death.

The 22-year-old and the 80-year-old lived in the same house.

As a police spokesman announced, the young man reported an argument with his grandmother, in the course of which he suffered a bleeding wound on his head.

The family members called in Rhineland-Palatinate immediately called the emergency number;

the 80-year-old woman could only be found lifeless in front of her house in the Deichhorst district.

The slightly injured 22-year-old was also there that evening (7 August).

The dead man's grandson was arrested as an urgent suspect, taken first to the hospital and then to a police detention cell.

At the request of the Oldenburg public prosecutor's office, he was brought before the magistrate on Monday (8 August).

This came to the conclusion that the suspect was in a state of reduced criminal responsibility, which is why he temporarily ordered his admission to a psychiatric clinic.

Further details have not yet been announced.

"The motive is still completely unclear," said a police spokesman, according to which the young man had not gotten involved in the crime.

According to the police, the 80-year-old was "obviously violent".
