The Council of the Chinese University of Hong Kong today (12th) announced the appointment of the former Associate Vice President (Scientific Research) of the University of Hong Kong and Professor Cen Meixia of the School of Biomedicine to succeed Zhang Miaoqing as the Vice President of the University for a three-year term that will take effect on August 1. Cen Meixia was also appointed as Zhuo Min's professor of biomedicine, effective from the 2nd of this month. Cen Meixia completed undergraduate and philosophical master courses at CUHK in 1981 and 1983, respectively, and was awarded a scholarship by the Qiu Cha Foundation to study for a doctorate in biochemistry at Cambridge University, and received a postdoctoral fellow in developmental genetics at the National Institutes of Medicine. Training. During her time as Associate Vice President (Scientific Research) and Professor of the School of Biomedicine at HKU, her main work included promoting interdisciplinary research, reviewing research integrity and graduate education. She led the university to participate in various domestic and international cooperation programs related to research, innovation and knowledge exchange, and proposed strategies and suggestions to the university governance team on how to improve the research level and effectiveness of HKU. She used to be Assistant Dean (Research), Director of the Reproductive and Developmental Research Center and Director of the Department of Biochemistry at the Li Ka Shing Medical College of the University of Hong Kong.

Professor Cen is also a well-known development biologist in the world and the region. She focuses on the molecular mechanisms of mammalian development and human congenital diseases, especially the role of transcription and signal transduction factors in nerve, sensory, and craniofacial development. She is currently a member of the editorial board of "Annual Review on Genomics and Human Genetics" and has also served as editor of "developmental biology", "Frontiers of Autonomic Neuroscience" and "PLoS One", as well as developmental biology, molecular biology and genetics Reviewers of various journals in the field. The research project that she led has successfully won 20 million Hong Kong dollars for off-campus research funding, with outstanding achievements.
