FC Bayern Munich mourns the loss of its long-time president Willi O. Hoffmann.

As the German soccer record champion announced, the former official died on Tuesday at the age of 92 in Munich.

Hoffmann belonged to the executive floor of FC Bayern for 27 years.

After positions as secretary and treasurer, the functionary, also known as "Champagne Willi" because of his party mood after Siegen in Munich, headed the association as president from 1979 to 1985.

During this time, FC Bayern celebrated, among other things, two championships and two DFB Cup victories, and the Munich team also reached the final in the 1982 European Cup against Aston Villa.

Bayern Honorary President Uli Hoeneß said: "In Willi O. Hoffmann we are losing a person who always carried FC Bayern in his heart.

He always approached all tasks positively and with his optimism made an important contribution to the development of FC Bayern.«

Club president Herbert Hainer said: “The Bayern family mourns the loss of Willi O. Hoffmann, who has more than earned his place in FC Bayern history.

In what was then a difficult phase for the club, he laid the foundation for FC Bayern to become one of the most successful clubs in the world.

We will never forget him, honor his memory and join in our sorrow with his family.«
