Saving energy: with the new law, the government could make specifications for room temperature, for example

The draft of the reformed energy security law has passed the federal cabinet: As expected, the ministers approved the regulations in the so-called circulation procedure, which, among other things, should make it possible to rescue ailing suppliers in the gas crisis.
In addition, the law authorizes the government to allow the rapidly rising prices to be passed on quickly via a pay-as-you-go system.
The law also gives them a free hand to specify lower room temperatures to save energy.
The Bundestag and Bundesrat should agree on Friday, which is considered safe.
This means that the law can be passed before the planned closure of the important Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline.
Pipeline maintenance is scheduled for 10 days starting July 11.
However, it is feared that this could take longer due to tensions with Russia or that ultimately no gas will be routed through at all.
