People often stand close together on the bus or tram, especially in the mornings and evenings.
Nevertheless, a normal surgical mask has been enough so far.
Now the country is tightening the rule on its own.
Stuttgart – In Baden-Württemberg, due to the rapidly increasing incidences caused by the Omicron variant, it will also be compulsory to wear FFP2 masks on buses and trains in the future.
On Tuesday in Stuttgart, the Ministry of Social Affairs confirmed a corresponding announcement by Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) on the radio station Antenne 1. The obligation is anchored in the new Corona Ordinance, which is due to come into force at the end of the week.

Plain text from Baden-Württemberg: Will FFP2 masks soon be mandatory on buses and trains?
FFP2 mask requirement in local public transport
The state government is thus taking the same path as Bavaria and Saxony, for example, which had implemented an FFP2 mask requirement in local public transport on their own responsibility, although the federal government is legally responsible.
Just recently, Hermann and Social Affairs Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) had written to the federal government asking them to change the law accordingly.
The federal and state governments have repeatedly called on the population to wear FFP2 masks in closed rooms and when meeting other people.
They are particularly effective in preventing infection.
The state government wants to revise the Corona regulation this week.
Because of Omikron, green-black wants to stick to the restrictions to a large extent.
However, since the country has to return to its regular tier system after a court ruling, there could still be some slight relaxation.
