Fiat 500 3 + 1, a double door on the right side

NEW - To make everyday life easier for city-dwellers, the city car from the Turin-based manufacturer is innovating with a version fitted with a small door with opposing opening.

Reconciling the pocket size of a 500 and accessibility to the rear seats of a 4-door is impossible.

Except for Fiat which found the solution by adding, on the right side only, a side half-door with opposing opening, as on the Mazda RX-8 and the first generation Mini Clubman.

Without a central upright and freeing 44 cm more in width of access, this new version of the Fiat 500 called "3 + 1" will comply with many uses.

It is now easier to get in and out of the cabin but parents, who are used to carrying small children, will no longer need to twist to seat them in the back and tie them down .

Visually, it will take a trained eye to distinguish the 3 + 1 version from its sister since, it is all the performance of the Italian engineers, the length remains unchanged at 3.63 m.

Safety is preserved because the small door can only be unlocked after opening the front right door.

If this version required the addition of structural reinforcements, in particular to reduce the consequences of a side impact, the increase in weight does not exceed 30 kilos.

The 500 “3 +1” is powered by an electric traction chain.

The launch version uses the designation "La Prima" and most of the equipment of the 2-door and the convertible presented a few months ago.

As announced during the first contact with the electric 500 at the end of last August, Fiat will offer an access version (Action) equipped with a smaller capacity battery and a less powerful engine.

This model combines a 70 kW (95 hp) engine with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 23.8 kWh.

Performance regresses: the 500 Action takes 0.5 seconds longer to reach 100 km / h and the speed is limited to 135 km / h, instead of 150 km / h.

Autonomy is also degraded.

Fiat promises 180 km according to the WLTP cycle with a full charge;

240 km downtown in accordion traffic.

For its part, the large 42 kWh battery claims a range of 320 km.
