The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has set the dates for the six qualifying windows for the World Cup, which will be hosted in three cities: Manila, Okinawa and Jakarta from 25 August to 10 September 2023.
About 80 teams from the Asian and African continents, the Americas and Europe, whose qualifiers began in February of last year, will compete for 32 qualifying cards for the World Cup during the period from November 2021 to February 2023.
The matches of the first window of the World Cup qualifiers will be held from November 22 to 30, while the second window will be held from February 21 to March 1, while June 27 to July 5 has been set as the date for holding the matches of the third window.
The fourth window matches will start on August 22, 2022 and end on August 30, while the fifth window matches will be held from November 7 to 15 of the same year, provided that the qualifiers will conclude with the sixth window matches from February 20 to 28, 2023.
Asian teams are competing for 6 cards after granting two direct qualification cards to the two host countries, the Philippines and Japan. The direct qualification card for Indonesia is subject to its occupying one of the top eight places in the 2021 Asian Cup, while 32 teams from the European continent are competing for 12 seats in the World Cup, and 16 teams from the continent will compete. Africa will win 5 World Cup cards, while 16 teams from the Americas will compete for 7 seats, bringing the total number of teams qualified for the World Cup to 32, similar to the previous version.
