Finn Kenter: The regattas are finally starting

The uneventful spring made Finn Kenter and his crew hungry.

The 20-year-old is happy that the idleness has come to an end.

It celebrates its season premiere at the H-boat fleet championship on the Edersee.

Seeshaupt - The long and uneventful spring made Finn Kenter and his crew hungry. "We are totally motivated to come out and sail regattas," reported the skipper from the Seeshaupt yacht club. The 20-year-old is happy that the idleness has come to an end. It celebrates its season premiere this weekend together with its bowmen Philipp Frieß, Lasse Kenter and Merlin Gnutzmann at the H-boat fleet championship on the Edersee.

Instead of showing up in Northern Hesse, Finn Kenter would have liked to sail on Lake Constance. The Bundesliga starts its ninth year this weekend. However, the Seeshaupter student already signaled to the Bodensee-Yachtclub Überlingen (BYCÜ) in winter that he can only be expected in the German Junior League, as he would like to concentrate primarily on the H-boat. "I would have liked to have been there, even as a non-sailor," said Kenter. He admits that the decision was difficult for him.

Since he is a member of the Bundesliga team, he enjoys the status of a competitive athlete.

Therefore, he was able to train on the J70 throughout the spring, which is used in the highest German sailing class.

The focus was mainly on the starting maneuver, which in the Bundesliga is half the battle to win a race.

There was no lack of strong competition.

Together with the Württemberg Yacht Club, the Constance Yacht Club and the Sailing and Motorboat Club Überlingen, BYCÜ formed a strong training community that was preparing for the Bundesliga season.

"I took a lot with me," said Kenter, drawing a positive conclusion from the sparring units on Lake Constance.

"It was good to come in and find the right tension on the boat."

While he can only watch the start of the German elite league from a distance, other sailors of the Seeshaupter are right in the middle of the action.

His former helmsman from common times in the 420, Nils Sternbeck, sails as a tactician for the crew of the Bavarian Yacht Club from Starnberg.

Florian and Nicolas Krauss are starting for the Chiemsee Yacht Club.

“It's always nice to see all the sea leaders,” says Kenter.

He regrets that he cannot be at the class reunion.

For Kenter, the sailing summer begins with the regatta on the Edersee.

The first races serve to regain a feeling for the boat and the processes within the team.

Two weeks later, real challenges await the crew from Lake Starnberg.

First it goes to the "Warnemünder Woche" and from there directly to the Danish Championship of H-Boats in Onsevig.

“We still want to improve,” says Kenter.

The head of the sea regards the H-boat fleet championship as an opportunity to get the finishing touches.

Since the field of participants with a total of 17 teams is manageable, the crew can calmly rehearse a few maneuvers in order to be prepared for the big regattas.

He and his crew have been looking forward to it long enough.
