Fire in JVA Weiterstadt: prisoner not in mortal danger

According to the Ministry of Justice, the prisoner injured in a fire in the Weiterstadt correctional facility (Darmstadt-Dieburg district) is not in mortal danger.
The 65-year-old has smoke inhalation and burns, a ministry spokesman said on Friday in Wiesbaden.
Weiterstadt/Wiesbaden - It was still unclear how the fire came about on Thursday in the solitary cell of the southern Hessian prison.
The injured man is said to be serving a three-year prison sentence there for robbery.
Around 550 prisoners are currently housed in the JVA, including around 180 prisoners on remand.
There were no other injuries in the fire.
