(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 29 - The crews of Canadair and helicopters of the State Air Fleet, coordinated by the Civil Protection Department, were engaged from the first light of the day in extinguishing numerous forest fires for which air support was essential to operations carried out by ground crews.
Eighteen applications for air competition received by the Unified Air Operations Center (Coau) of the Department so far: 8 from Sicily, 3 from Puglia, 3 from Calabria, 2 from Lazio, one from Campania and one from Basilicata.
"The intense work carried out by the pilots of the air vehicles - explains the Department - has made it possible to put 10 fires under control by the host so far. The activities of launching water and liquid retardant and extinguishing agent will continue as long as the light conditions allow to operate in safety".
