The fires renewed this evening in the Akrom forests in Akkar, northern Lebanon, and got out of control, extending to the outskirts of Wadi Khaled and besieging residents in their homes.

The Lebanese National News Agency stated that the fires are still raging in several locations of the Marjan and Qataba forests in the town of Qobayat in Akkar, and spread at a record speed and on a large scale in the forests of Wadi Oudin in the town of Andaqt and upwards towards the Mount Akrom area, reaching Al-Ruwaimah and its surroundings in the Beit Jaafar area.

The mayor of Andaqt, Joseph Imad, pointed out that the fire patch continued to engulf new areas in Wadi Oudin, and inflicted heavy losses on forest trees, orchards and crops.

Although the firefighters, in concert with the Lebanese army, managed to partially control the fire from the direction of the town of Qobayat, there are still burning pockets in each of the towns of Qataba, Qamee, Al Mashrou’ Al Akhdar, Wadi Oudin and Andakt.

In addition, the civil defense firefighting teams in Baalbek, eastern Lebanon, were able to put out a fire of dry grasses in the locality of Ain Burdai, at the western entrance to the city, and prevented the flames from spreading towards residential houses and forest trees planted on the side of the road.
