As expected, Borussia Dortmund won the Revier derby against FC Schalke.
The game ended 3-0 (0-0) on the fifth day of the Bundesliga.
Manuel Akanji scored the lead (55th minute), shortly afterwards Erling Haaland increased (60th), before Mats Hummels made the decision (77th).
It was a clash with unequal signs: runner-up Borussia Dortmund welcomed FC Schalke, who had not been able to win since January.
At BVB, captain Marco Reus initially sat on the bench, Mahmoud Dahoud made a surprising start.
Roman Bürki returned to goal instead of Marwin Hitz.
The 19-year-old central defender Malick Thiaw was in the Schalke team - and the young, fast Rabbi Matondo was allowed to play from the start.
Jadon Sancho had the first chance in the 181st Revierderby after ten minutes, his long-range shot went over the gate.
Shortly afterwards, Schalke's goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow had to intervene after an unplaced low shot from Haaland (11th), and the goalkeeper defused an attempt by Thomas Meunier from a tight left angle.
After a Schalke corner, Matondo pushed the ball over the BVB goal with his heel, but was offside.
The guests didn't have more to offer offensively.
The best opportunity in the first half had Dahoud, who shot a long shot on the Schalke crossbar (31st).
Double punch within five minutes
BVB ran incessantly, tried it in small parts and often through the middle.
Schalke played in a disciplined manner, narrowed the space in the center, but had no offensive ideas.
So for a long time it was a game in front of 300 spectators, which missed great opportunities.
After a short corner, Guerreiro put a hard shot into the right corner.
The BVB central defender Akanji used the rebound from keeper Rönnow to take the lead (55th).
Dortmund took advantage of the Schalke state of shock: Sancho stuck to Haaland, who skilfully lifted the ball over Rönnow into the goal (60th).
The Norwegian almost managed the double, but Rönnow acted attentively when he shot into the right corner (67th).
After a corner, captain Hummels set the end point with a header hit (78th).
In the league, Dortmund consolidated third place behind RB Leipzig and FC Bayern with twelve points.
Schalke are still penultimate with one point from five games.
