Football EM 2021: Draw against Scotland - harmless English disappointed in the prestige duel

There was no winner in the prestigious duel between England and Scotland at the European Football Championship.

The British rivals separated 0-0 at London's Wembley Stadium.

The English favored in Group D showed a poor performance, outsiders Scotland met the Three Lions over the entire duration of the game at eye level and had a good chance of taking more than one point.

The Scots were surprisingly even in the first half: England's central defender John Stones blocked a first shot from Ché Adams (4th). On the other side, Stones headed the ball after a corner kick to the post (11th), Phil Foden with a shot from the left (18th) and Harry Kane with a diving header (29th) each narrowly missed the goal and were also each offside. The first goalkeeper save had to show England's Jordan Pickford, who defused a direct decrease by the Scottish Steven O'Donnell (30th).

The Three Lions came with more pull to goal from the break: After a shot by Mason Mount, Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall had to intervene for the first time (48th).

But Scotland also remained dangerous, with a volley from Lyndon Dykes cleared by Reece James just before the goal line (63rd).

A dropkick attempt slipped Adams over the foot, the shot from an acute angle went next to the goal (78th).

England's offensive performance in the closing stages disappointed, the high-profile storm of the team from Gareth Southgate could not get through against the Scottish five-man chain.

In Group D, England will face the group win on the last matchday against the Czech Republic in a direct duel, a draw would guarantee advancement.

The Scots, for their part, have to win against Croatia to have a chance of reaching the last 16.
