A violent explosion terrified the mosque in the southern city of Kandahar, the Taliban's spiritual base, just two weeks after dozens were killed in a terrorist attack on a Shiite mosque in the north of the country.

At least seven people have been killed and 13 others injured in an explosion at a Shiite mosque in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, officials said today (Friday), a week after a deadly ISIS attack on a Shiite mosque in the north of the country.
In photos published by local journalists, many victims were seen lying on the blood-stained floor of the mosque.
Taliban special forces arrived at the mosque after the blast, and residents of Kandahar, the organization's spiritual base, were called to donate blood to the wounded.
The second attack in a week against the Shiite minority in the country, persecuted by ISIS, raises fears of escalating chaos in Afghanistan.
The Taliban, which is waging war on ISIS, is having a hard time asserting its authority across the country and its forces are being attacked daily.
