Former Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo underwent surgery to stop a hemorrhage in the brain and is now in stable condition, his doctor reported.

The former president of Paraguay Fernando Lugo had a surgical intervention that ended in the early hours of this Thursday to stop a hemorrhage in the brain and is now stable, Jorge Querey, his family doctor and senator from the same party as Lugo, Frente Guasu.

Lugo will remain hospitalized in intensive care.

In addition, between 48 and 72 hours the specialists will be able to have a more specific evaluation.

“He continues to be a critical patient and we are going to give the prognosis based on the evolution, I think that today it would be very hasty to grab and establish a prognosis,” said Querey.

This Wednesday, the former president suffered a decompensation in his National Congress office and was admitted to an Asunción hospital in intensive care.

At that time, Querey explained to the local media that Lugo suffered an ischemic stroke and was in intensive care in a private hospital, "with an induced coma and connected to a respirator."
