The United States team wants to win the gold medal in basketball for the fourth time in a row and the seventh in the last eight Olympic tournaments.
To do that, the Americans need to beat France in the final after losing 83:76 in the opening game of the tournament.
The United States come after 78:97 against the powerful Australia in the semi-finals and thanks to a dominant performance in the second half, while France achieved a tooth-and-nail victory over Slovenia thanks to a block by Nicolas Batum in the closing seconds.
France has never won a gold medal at the Olympics and twice it has won silver: once somewhere in 1948 and the second time in 2000, then losing 85:75 in the final to the United States with Vince Carter and Ray Allen leading the Americans with 13 points each.
