There were fewer business creations in May in France, after the increase observed in April, due to the sharp decline in new registrations of micro-enterprises, INSEE said on Wednesday.

Last month, business start-ups fell by 4%, after an increase of 1.9% in April, the drop in new micro-enterprises reaching 7.3%, after a slight growth of 0.7% in April. April, detailed the National Institute of Statistics.
On the other hand, the number of traditional business creations rose again by 2.1%, a slightly slower pace than in April (+ 4%).
By sector, new registrations are down sharply in transport and warehousing (-13.9%), in education, health and social action activities (-11.6%) or even manufacturing industry (-10.4%).
On the other hand, they are up sharply in accommodation and catering (+ 12.4%).
Despite the overall decline in May, over the last three months (from March to May), the number of business creations jumped (+ 91.2%) compared to the same months of 2020, but this is mainly explained by the fall in creations recorded during the first confinement last year, explains INSEE.
Finally, over the last twelve months, the number of businesses created has increased by 31%, driven by the regime of micro-entrepreneurs (+ 37.2%), companies (+ 27.3%) and sole proprietorships ( + 4.9%).
