The riot in France has overshadowed Ligue 1 football games again: on Wednesday evening, fans of both teams attacked each other in the game between hosts Angers SCO and Olympique Marseille.

Supporters of HSC Montpellier had previously attacked a bus from the port city before the game against Girondins Bordeaux.

The sports newspaper "L'Équipe" spoke of a "sad habit" that had become widespread in the stadiums of the French first division.

In Angers, people from the Marseille block had stormed to another area in the square along the grandstand and messed with supporters of the home team.

Videos and photos show how people hit each other, objects fly through the air.

Security forces had to intervene, even OM trainer Jorge Sampaoli intervened accordingly. According to French media reports, the stadium announcer tried to stop the escalation. "Please please. Which picture do we give? Please people, calm down, ”he called over the loudspeaker.

According to Marseilles communications chief Jacques Cardoze, a provocation by home fans against OM players preceded them, among other things, they were thrown with fireworks, the Marseilles fans reacted to it, "which is unfortunately a classic pattern," says Cardoze, "it's stupid both sides".

He spoke of a "collective responsibility".

One can observe that the problems are spreading: "We haven't seen football for 15 months, and people are obviously not intelligent enough to just come to watch football," the sports information service quoted Cardoze as saying.

16 injured after attack on bus

Hours earlier, before the game between Montpellier and Bordeaux, another incident had occurred. According to official information, around 50 supporters of the home team attacked a bus with fans of the guests. According to the police, there was then a brawl, the attackers therefore had smoke bombs and iron bars with them, and 16 people were slightly injured. There were initially no arrests. The perpetrators are to be determined.

Violent incidents had recently increased in France's stadiums.

Last weekend, fans crowded the field before half-time at the Nordderby Lens against Lille.

Seat shells were thrown, and there were also several injured.

The game was able to continue after 30 minutes under increased security precautions.

The game between OGC Nice and Olympique Marseille had to be canceled around four weeks ago after Nice supporters had stormed onto the pitch and supporters, players and club officials had fought violent arguments.
