French prosecutors have demanded the imprisonment of international footballer Karim Benzema in connection with a case related to blackmailing his French compatriot Mathieu Valbuena in a case dating back to 2015, according to Spanish media.
According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the French prosecutor called for Benzema to be imprisoned for a period of 10 months, with a suspended sentence for the Real Madrid striker.
Benzema will not be obliged to go to prison unless he is convicted of another crime within a certain period of time according to French law, where after accusing the prosecution, he must wait for the final decision of the judges who will issue their verdict based on the arguments presented by his lawyer.
Benzema is one of five people on trial for the attempted blackmail of Valbuena.
