According to Fridays for Future, around 20,000 people moved from the Brandenburg Gate through the government district on Friday to demand better climate protection from the possible traffic light coalition.

According to a police spokesman, there were fewer participants - he spoke of a "high four-digit" number.

The demonstration was mostly trouble-free, it said.

After the end, however, there were blockades in front of the headquarters of the SPD, Greens and FDP.

The biggest action was in front of the SPD party headquarters in Kreuzberg: According to the police, around 200 people blocked the intersection in front of the Willy Brandt House, on which a tractor was parked.

Three men climbed on traffic lights or lamp posts.

According to the police, climate protection activists also gathered on the street in front of the party headquarters of the Greens.

It was said that there were 35 to 40 people there.

There were also actions in front of the FDP party house, as it was called by Friday for Future.

The movement's environmentalists are calling, among other things, for a binding phase-out of coal by 2030 and a ban on the installation of fossil combustion engines from 2025. Under the motto »You don't leave us a choice«, the demonstrators protested against what they saw as an inadequate program.

Activist Luisa Neubauer recently said that business as usual in climate policy was doomed to failure.

Around 30 actors with the issues of climate, anti-racism and social justice called for the protest.

The demonstration was also the prelude to the days of action that the alliance called "Justice Now!" On the occasion of the coalition negotiations between the SPD, Greens and FDP.

There were other rallies nationwide, including in Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony.
