In June of this year, curious amateur astronomers can marvel at a very special moon in the sky: the strawberry moon is the largest of the year.
Munich – It has been known for centuries that the moon influences animals and humans.
But you should also align your gardening with the phases of the moon.
In June, the full moon marks the beginning of summer.

Whether pink moon, super full moon or flower moon: every month a certain full moon appears, which has a certain name.
The moon names are not chosen arbitrarily, but are based on seasonal characteristics in nature, but also on dates in agriculture.
On June 14th at exactly 12:50 p.m. is the largest full moon of the year, since the moon is closest to our earth at this time.
According to Bayerischer Rundfunk ("BR"), the moon appears 13 percent larger than the smallest full moon.
But in the end the moon only appears larger when it is on the horizon, as it forms a contrast to houses or mountains, according to BR.
Since this moon falls almost exactly before the start of summer on June 21st, it is associated with a particularly short night.
Full moon in June: importance for your garden
With the summer solstice in mid-June, the length of the day reaches a peak – there are then a whopping 16 hours between sunrise and sunset and the sun is at its northernmost point from our point of view, at an angle of about 65 degrees.
Depending on the weather, this zenith of the sun means that your plants are exposed to a particularly large amount of sunlight.

According to the BR, the earliest sunrise of the year is June 16, five days before the solstice.
That means for your flowers and perennials: Make sure there is an adequate water supply!
Also, during the Strawberry Moon is the ideal time to start taking care of planting berries.
The time around the full moon is also very good for caring for and working on plants such as lettuce, cabbage or leafy houseplants.
