For the Free Voters (FW) in the city council, the path to a livelier city center is not a short-distance run, but a marathon.
Regardless of the distance, the FW urge that the city council now climb into the starting blocks.
Erding - During the editorial visit, parliamentary group leader Hans Fehlberger and local chairman Benedikt Hoigt sketched their route.
For Fehlberger, a pedestrian zone is “not the right thing, at least not in the next few years”.
Above all, he thinks the Long Line is far too wide for life to return if the cars stay outside.
"To do this, it would first have to be redesigned so that it is attractive and not orphaned."
For him, “central parking spaces are the key to success”.
People would always stay mobile and want to be as close as possible to the shops.
He recalls that the FW predecessor UWE had already applied for a parking garage or deck at the old building yard in 2012.
In 2017 the FW repeated their request.
It has not yet been dealt with, apart from a few thousand euros in planning costs that were once put into the budget.
Fehlberger is also of the opinion that the city should support a private investor if he wants to build a parking garage.
A swipe at Mayor Max Gotz (CSU) and the town hall, who put up a plan in the area of the steel museum and large parking lot that is diametrically opposed to the landowner's ideas.
Fehlberger is also calling for more speed for the Mayr-Wirt area in the Haager Vorstadt, which would generate a lot of frequency.
“The FW would like to have an inn there again with rooms for the clubs.” In addition, a lot could be done in the area of urban planning.
The employment agency could also have been located here.
Fehlberger warns of a further delay and the collision of this major project with the conversion of the air base site, which will begin in 2025.
But there are also short-term improvements.
Hoigt suggests giving restaurateurs not only larger open bar areas during the Corona period, but every summer.
The Green Market is already being used for cultural events.
According to Hoigt's taste, there could be more - as a magnet.
The FW are also committed to more intensive city marketing.
"You could build a local online shop platform," suggests Hoigt.
With city tours, elementary school children could be introduced to the old town in a targeted manner - and not only on Fischer's Happy Day.
Last but not least, the quality of stay must be increased - with more seating and play areas as well as green islands.
Ardeo and the trade association would have to be involved.
