Update from June 24, 10:05 p.m .:

While the heads of state and government of the G7 countries are preparing for their meeting at Schloss Elmau, critics met at an alternative summit in Munich.

There, the seven leading Western economies were accused of shared responsibility for global crises and injustice.

The wealth of the G7 nations is based on the exploitation of the Global South, said the political officer of the alliance erlassjahr.de, Malina Stutz: "We don't want to continue to accept that." The alliance is committed to independent insolvency proceedings for over-indebted states.

"Progress for a just world" is the alleged goal of the G7 summit, the organizers of the event announced in advance.

The participating states would often block necessary reforms "for national and economic power interests".

"You could do it all differently," said Julia Thrul from Oxfam Germany. "You just have to have the courage to imagine it." Among other things, the organization calls for a special tax to combat inequality.

Update from June 24, 8:10 p.m .:

The free voters in Garmisch-Partenkirchen also voiced strong criticism of the G7 summit.

They demand a resolution so that such a meeting with all the trimmings is not repeated in the district.

G7 summit in Schloss Elmau: Thanks to the police, 130 cows are allowed through the security area

Update from June 24, 7 p.m.:

The security area around the G7 conference venue Schloss Elmau is actually reserved for only a small circle of two-legged friends.

However, an exception has now been made for around 130 cows.

Under police protection, they were herded across the heavily guarded area to their pasture.

The animals had to cross the temporary helipad paved especially for the summit, where the state guests are supposed to land - this is usually a hikers' car park.

The legacies of the cows were immediately removed, reported a police spokesman.

"A sweeper was called in to put the place back in good condition." The animals were accompanied on the way to the Wettersteinalm by numerous drivers from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area.

The police officers present opened the fence that was erected around the castle to allow the cows to pass.

Normally, since Sunday, only those who have accreditation may enter the four square kilometer security area around the conference venue.

Thunderstorms ahead of G7 summit cause problems for protest camp – does this make it more difficult for politicians to get there?

Meanwhile, a few hundred sheep have to graze in the valley first.

The lift originally planned for the summit weekend was postponed to the following weekend in a joint meeting between the police and the Partenkirchen pasture cooperative because of the G7 operation, the police said on request.

The buoyancy is generally carried out on weekends, since the buoyancy helpers work in their free time.

Update from June 24, 6 p.m.:

Storms are forecast for the days of the G7 summit.

There is a risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail.

That could complicate the arrival of the politicians and also life in the protest camp.

The weather is the top: before the G7 meeting in Elmau Castle, the police have to take cover.

Before the G7 summit: Federal police even with horses at border crossings

Update from June 24, 4:17 p.m .:

At a G7 border check in Swabia, four police officers were slightly injured by aggressive young people.

As the police announced on Friday, two 19-year-olds and a 17-year-old had behaved aggressively during a check on the Autobahn near Sigmarszell (Lindau district) on Friday night and refused to show their ID cards.

When the young people were then searched, the two 19-year-olds hit the police officers.

Four officers were slightly injured.

The federal police also announced that more checks are to be expected at the border crossings in the next few days.

And not just on the streets.

The police are also present away from the usual border crossings in the G7 event region.

The officials are on horseback and sometimes on foot.

The G7 summit in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is not only criticized by protesters – also by residents and the mayor.

Two days before the politicians arrived at Schloss Elmau, she made a statement on a BR program.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: fuss about demo at the castle - discussions are ongoing

What is still unclear for the critics of the summit, however, is whether a demonstration near the conference venue Schloss Elmau will be approved.

"Being shuttled there with police buses has nothing to do with the right to assembly," Runte criticized a proposal currently under discussion.

At least you want to go there in your own bus.

The police said that coordination between the applicants and the authorities was still ongoing.

According to the district office, around 25 events in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area have been registered around the summit.

Of these, almost ten had been approved by Thursday.

Update from June 24, 12:31 p.m .:

“MorningMan Mike” from Radio Gong is probably the best-known radio voice in Munich.

The moderator now used his range to rumble against the G7 summit.

And to appeal to politicians.

Because of the G7 summit in Elmau, police forces have been sent from all over the country to southern Bavaria.

Not a good move from an environmental point of view.

Update from June 24, 9:31 a.m .:

Large military helicopters are circling over the state capital Munich more often these days.

To be more precise, they are Chinook CH47 transport helicopters (picture below) or US Army Force Pavehawks and Bundeswehr NH-90s.

Because the big machines fly just over the heads of Munich, make one or the other worry.

But there is no reason for that.

When asked, the police said that the helicopters would be used during the G7 summit in Elmau.

The high-ranking participants of the politicians' meeting are to be flown to the Alps with them.

“Test flights are completed for these transfer flights because, for example, the exact flight route has to be checked,” explains Head of Operations and Police Vice President Michael Dibowski.

There are also more police flights overall because of the G7 - not least immediately after the arson attack in the Au.

First report from June 23, 8:07 p.m.:

Garmisch-Partenkirchen – The G7 summit will take place in Elmau in a few days.

The heads of state and government of the seven most important industrialized countries will meet at Schloss Elmau from June 26th to 28th to discuss and coordinate their positions on global and political issues.

There is a lot going on in the region days before the summit, parking lots and excursion destinations are closed, the police are tightening controls, which is why enormous traffic jams are to be expected.

Flight exercises have also been taking place for days.

Local residents aren't exactly happy about it.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: The opponents' protest camp was already set up on Friday

The protests against the G7 summit also started before the meeting.

750 participants are expected.

The activists will camp in tents on the meadow next to the Garmischer Reitlweg.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: alternative summit of the opponents planned in Munich

In Munich, too, activists want to take to the streets against the G7 summit.

The large demo has been announced for Saturday afternoon (June 25), the police want to be on site with 3,000 officers.

Munich's head of operations and police vice president Michael Dibowski even expects a black block.

It was only on Wednesday that unknown persons set fire to eight Munich police vehicles.

One investigates here in all directions.

In addition to the demo on Saturday, a so-called “alternative summit” is planned in Munich on Friday.

Interested parties can take part in the G7 alternative summit from 3 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. in the EineWeltHaus in Munich or online.

In six workshops, development policy and anti-globalisation organizations will discuss topics such as debt relief, sustainable business and human rights and present just alternatives to the neo-colonial policies of the G7 states.
