The discovery of Brian Laundrie's personal effects in Florida on Wednesday marks a new step forward in this investigation which fascinates Amé

The American police found on Wednesday, October 20, the trace of Brian Laundrie, boyfriend of Gabby Petito, actively wanted since his disappearance on September 14.

"Investigators found in Porth North, Florida, what appears to be human remains along with personal items like a backpack and a notebook belonging to (him)," said Michael McPherson, federal police special constable.

A macabre discovery made as part of the investigation into the death of his girlfriend Gabrielle.

But where are we exactly?

The murder of Gabby Petito

The body of Gabby Petito, 22, was found on Oct. 17 near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

According to the autopsy report made after the discovery of her body, the young woman was strangled.

With her boyfriend Brian Laundrie, she had been on a road trip through the American West for several months.

The couple regularly commented on this adventure in videos posted on social networks.

Brian Laundry, prime suspect

The 23-year-old had returned alone with the van to their Florida home, raising suspicion.

He was subsequently charged with having used his late fiancée's bank card between August 30 and September 1 before disappearing in turn on September 14.

He had not been found for weeks and a vast search operation had been launched to find him.

The “human remains” and the objects belonging to him discovered this Wednesday, October 20 are in the environmental park of Myakkahatchee Creek, in North Port, Florida.

Investigators, however, did not specify to whom these "human remains" might belong.

"I know you have many questions, but we do not yet have all the answers," added the special agent of the federal police, in a short speech broadcast live by the American media.

The forensic scientists will remain on site "probably for several days," said the head of the investigation.

A dispute that challenges

Described as "person of interest in the investigation" before his disappearance, Brian Laundrie had refused to answer questions from the police.

The suspicions against him had redoubled after the broadcast of a video of police officers showing their intervention during an argument between the couple during their trip.

"She gets annoyed sometimes", he declared in particular to the agents, called for this marital dispute, while Gabby Petito appeared in tears, in a car.

Torrents of publications

The discovery of his belongings alongside human remains was widely covered on Wednesday by US televisions, which dispatched helicopters to film the search area.

The disappearance of Gabby Petito, then the manhunt to find her boyfriend, has been the subject of abundant media coverage, and a torrent of publications on social networks, Internet users having mobilized to try to find the girl.

Since Brian Laundrie had vanished, reports had been given by Americans believed to have seen him across the country.
