A woman in her forties was stabbed to death this Saturday in the city of Vauvert, south of Nîmes (Gard), according to Midi Libre, Objectif Gard and France Bleu Gard Lozère.
Her companion, a septuagenarian with whom she lived, was arrested and taken into custody following the tragedy.
According to France Bleu, the alert was given by one of the couple's children, a 15-year-old teenager, at the end of the afternoon.
She would have "seen everything, heard everything", according to the mayor of Vauvert, quoted by the local radio.
A "problem-free" family
When they arrived at the couple's home, in low-cost housing in the Bosquet district, the firefighters were unable to resuscitate the mother, who had been stabbed several times.
His companion, suspected of being behind the beatings, was taken into custody during the day.
An investigation was launched by the research brigade of the Gard gendarmerie.
A psychological unit has also been set up.

According to the mayor of the town, the family “posed no problem”.
