The project on Garmisch-Partenkirchner Krankenhausstrasse continues to grow.

The work should be completed by the end of November.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- “We want to grow,” says Sybille Calabresi-Scholz, a little ambiguously.

The co-founder of the Friends of Natural Encounter and Exercise Areas Garmisch-Partenkirchen applies this not only to the association, but also to the area of the Gapark on Krankenhausstrasse - the major project of the merger.

After the bike park, the focus is now on the open spaces, everything should be green, cozy and inviting.

The members of the association have been active again and again since spring.

First of all, the route for the young bikers was expanded, in the summer more earthworks followed, and those responsible wanted to do it again in the autumn.

Now it is time to plant the area.

In preparation, they had already removed the stony areas, applied new humus and sown the lawn.

Finally, the plants were added and used.

These should offer the Gapark visitors comfort and protection.

A "snack garden" is to be created.

"For relaxation and strengthening, something like a green living room," says Calabresi-Scholz.

Only local companies have been commissioned for the work.

“Local reference is the overall principle,” she notes.

Not only quiet areas, but also movement areas should become greener

But not only the quiet areas, also the movement areas should be green. All age groups have the opportunity to get active there with slacklining or rope swings. Cyclists can also look forward to a piece of nature in their area. "The bike park consists of a stone-pine area." The club deliberately did not tar the area. “The area should remain natural and changeable.” Bushes facing the street will delimit the area.

Whether bikers, athletes or those looking for relaxation - each group has its own area.

The sections of the park are divided into landscapes.

"The financing is still running," reports Calabresi-Scholz.

The market town contributed around 80,000 euros.

A further 30,000 euros were put into the project through donations and crowdfunding from private individuals and local companies.

“The planting is still covered,” says the founder of the association.

However, the complete construction still has to be financed.

"Tree donations have already been integrated." The association gave new life to plants that would otherwise end up in the garbage on the Gapark grounds.

Thomas Angele supports the team professionally

The team is professionally supported by Thomas Angele. He created the draft plan and was allowed to present it to the community. The trained landscape gardener insists on getting involved with the project. “We only plant native plants that are useful,” explains Angele. Typical plant, as it can be found in every garden in the district. From the bee-friendly rose hedge to the gooseberries and raspberries - every plant has its place and its function. “This promotes biodiversity.” The plants are adapted to the local climatic conditions and are therefore not sensitive to the coming winter frost. Nevertheless, the stock must be maintained. No problem, says the landscape architect: "I have created a maintenance calendar for the club." If the weather remains favorable, the project will be completed at the end of November. “Various play equipment will be delivered in mid-November,” reveals Angele. It may take a while for the plants to develop. But maybe the first raspberries can be harvested as early as next year.
