Gas prices frozen until the end of 2022

While the tariff shield was scheduled until April, the Prime Minister announced that faced with the gas price crisis, the blocking

There is no question of paying more for his gas in 2022 than in October 2021. Invited on the TF1 set to present measures against the soaring fuel prices, the Prime Minister has provided a sizeable precision for gas consumers.

While it was normally expected that a catch-up would be put in place from spring 2022 to reimburse the freeze applied since October 1, 2021, Jean Castex indicated that the State would partly finance the measure.

“Gas prices have increased six-fold since 2019,” he said.

But this increase will not unfortunately stop next spring, as the experts had first decreed.

The decline will be slower, at least until the end of the year.

A situation which would have the effect of maintaining the price of gas at a level higher than that of October 2021. Socially and politically unacceptable for the government.

How much will this state support be?

“At least several hundred million euros”, confides a ministerial adviser.

This new boost will be the subject of an amendment in the finance bill currently being examined in Parliament.

Faced with the rise in prices in general and fuel in particular, the Head of State has also announced an "inflation allowance" of 100 euros automatically paid to each French person who earns less than 2000 euros net per month from December .

This financial boost will concern employees, civil servants, the self-employed, job seekers and retirees.

These announcements confirm in any case the concern of the government, which does not expect a return to normal on the energy front for at least a year.

On BFM TV Wednesday evening, the Minister of the Economy had already warned that an improvement in the situation "before the end of 2022, at best".
