(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 10 - To strengthen the offensive in the Donbass and the defenses against the expected Ukrainian counterattacks in the South, Russia has put together a new important formation of ground forces, the Third Army Corps, based in the oblastdi Nizhny Novgorod east of Moscow.

This was stated in a tweet by the updated intelligence report of the British Ministry of Defense.

Russia probably plans to put battalions of newly trained "volunteers" on the field, who come from all over the country, the report said.

Regional Russian politicians confirmed that potential recruits are being offered cash bonuses to fight in Ukraine.

Recruitment is open to men up to the age of 50 and with only middle school education.

A Russian army corps is usually made up of 15-20,000 soldiers, but it will likely be difficult for Moscow to build battalions of this size given the very limited levels of popular enthusiasm for volunteering for combat in Ukraine.

It is unlikely - according to the report - that the effect of these military forces will be decisive for the campaign.
