In June 2021, the website of the Brazilian daily
O Globo
revealed that the “Museu George Bernanos”, established in Barbacena, in the house where the novelist lived between 1940 and 1945, had been closed due to the collapse of the roof, structural cracking, land subsidence and fire hazards.
The objects and souvenirs exhibited in the rooms where the Bernanos, father, mother and children, lived through long months of melancholy exile have been sheltered at the Maison de la culture.
