Tatjana Maria won the German duel in Wimbledon against debutante Jule Niemeier and is playing for a place in the final on Thursday.
The 34-year-old prevailed in the quarterfinals against Dortmund, who was twelve years her junior, 4: 6, 6: 2, 7: 5.
In the next round, Maria will face Ons Jabeur from Tunisia, who is third, or Marie Bouzkova from the Czech Republic.
Maria had never gotten past the third round of a Grand Slam, Niemeier played her second major tournament after the French Open, and she lost her opening match in Paris.
Both played the first German quarterfinals in Wimbledon after Angelique Kerber and Sabine Lisicki in 2012.
