During this month of sometimes tense negotiations between the SPD, the Greens and the liberal FDP party, the project to legalize the consumption of cannabis quickly gained unanimity.
The Liberal Party criticizes a ban which
“criminalizes ordinary consumers”
.
At the head of the gondola among the Greens, the principle of
"regulated distribution to adults",
with an emphasis on
"the protection of young people and the prevention of drug addiction",
quickly convinced the SPD, the less enthusiastic of the trio.
In the aftermath of the official announcement, the newspaper
Der Tagesspiegel
simply underlined, also referring to the end of the ban on advertising for abortion or the removal of the word race from the Constitution, that
“German law caught up with social reality ”
.

Although possession, trade and cultivation of cannabis has been banned in Germany (except for therapeutic use since 2017), more than a quarter of Germans aged 15 to 64 have smoked it in the past.
