In the pandemic, many switch to bicycles.

The Greens are now calling for pop-up cycle paths to be built in Germering.

Germering - Hamburg, Berlin, Munich: They have sprung up like mushrooms in many cities: pop-up cycle paths.

These are cycle paths set up at short notice, which should quickly offer cyclists more safety and more space.

The Green parliamentary group in the city council would like to implement such paths in Germering as well.

She requests that the city council commission the town hall administration to develop a concept for temporary pop-up bike paths and pop-up bike racks.

The whole thing should be implemented by the summer of this year.

At the end of the year, the implemented measures should then be evaluated and presented to the city council, the application continues.

After a year of the corona pandemic, it is already evident that cycling will continue to increase this summer and will play an important role for local mobility, they justify their request.

As early as 2020, temporary cycle paths were successfully set up in many cities and municipalities, which provided a safe infrastructure for cyclists.

At the same time, associations such as ADFC and the Germering traffic club urgently point out that more should be done to ensure the safety of cyclists, according to the Green Group.

Many Germeringers would feel unsafe on the city streets.

With the establishment of temporary pop-up cycle paths, new cycle routes can also be tested simply and easily.

But Germering is not only intended to become more cycle-friendly through temporary cycle paths.

The reasons also call for pop-up bike racks and parking spaces for cargo bikes instead of car parking spaces.

In their opinion, this would be ideal in Otto-Wagner-Strasse and Unteren Bahnhofstrasse, for example.

In order to save costs, bike stands that are currently not required could be used.

For the development of the concept, the Greens propose the subject areas of environmental issues together with the Institute for Innovative Cities.

Both offices have already dealt intensively with bicycle traffic in Germering and should be able to quickly identify the suitable locations for the pop-up cycle paths and stands, it said.
