Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfB Stuttgart split 1: 1 (1: 1) in the Saturday evening game of the eighth Bundesliga match in front of 41,608 spectators.
Konstantinos Mavropanos had put the guests in the lead in the 15th minute, Jonas Hofmann equalized (42nd minute).
In the past few days there was only one topic at VfB Stuttgart: Corona. Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo had to do without several infected players in training, against the Gladbacher he lacked numerous professionals: Compared to the 3-1 against TSG Hoffenheim, he had to do without goalkeepers Florian Müller, Waldemar Anton and Orel Mangala, with Fabian Bredlow and Hiroki moving in for them Ito and Nikolas Nartey in the starting XI.
Gladbach's coach Adi Hütter was able to fall back on the 3-1 starting eleven in Wolfsburg, which immediately put the guests under pressure.
Kouadio Koné aimed just over it (11th), shortly afterwards Luca Netz failed (12th).
However, the goal fell on the other side: Central defender Mavropanos shot the ball from a half-right position, unsustainable for Yann Sommer, into the left corner (15th).
Tanguy Coulibaly missed the 2-0, he lifted summer in the 31st minute - and the Gladbach goal.
A lot of speed, few opportunities
The equalizer was no less nice than the 0: 1: Hofmann chased the ball from the left corner of the penalty area with a volley into the right corner of the goal (42nd).
The hosts were superior in the second half: Lars Stindl approached dangerously in the 51st minute, substitute Alassane Pléa was prevented from closing the goal in dire need (69th).
The winning goal never fell.
Both teams fall short of expectations after the draw.
The Gladbachers are tenth with eleven points, VfB is twelfth with nine points,
