Schweinfurt / Erding - Like beaten dogs, the Erding Gladiators snuck into their cabin in the Schweinfurt ice stadium on Friday evening.

They had just lost the guest appearance at the Mighty Dogs 3: 6 (1: 1, 1: 4, 1: 1) and thus fell out of the playoff ranks for the time being.

Erdings coach Thomas Vogl was very confident before the game. "We can finally compete again with three complete rows," he announced. But it didn't quite work out, because only 14 field players made their way to Schweinfurt. After their corona-related suspension, Marko Babic, Basti Cramer and Rudi Lorenz were there again. In addition, Alex Gantschnig was involved again after the suspension had expired, Roni Rukajärvi had survived his flu, and 19-year-old newcomer Tim Gabriel made his debut. On the other hand, however, the injured Florian Zimmermann was missing, the sick Lukas Krämmer and Wassilij Guft-Sokolov, Lars Bernhardt who was unable to attend professionally and Michael Trox who was unable to attend privately. In addition, none of the U 20 players was available.

And it couldn't have started any worse for the Gladiators, because after 21 seconds the puck was in keeper Thomas Mende's goal - Dylan Hood had scored for the Mighty Dogs.

Now the gladiators took the initiative, had the equalizer on the racket when Timo Borrmann, Daniel Krzizok and Sebastian Busch had great opportunities, but could not overcome Schweinfurt's goalkeeper Benedict Rossberg.

But in the 12th minute it worked: Krzizok outnumbered the puck from close range to make it 1: 1.

The rest of the third belonged to the Mighty Dogs again, who screamed the goal in the 17th minute of a power play, but Mende fended off the puck with an unbelievable save.

As in the first third, the Gladiators slept through the beginning of the middle third, were 3-1 behind after goals from Christian Masel and Joshua Bourne, and Nils Melchior even made it 4-1 (26th). With all goals against, the defensive behavior of the Vogl troop was hair-raising, time after time two Schweinfurters stood alone in front of keeper Mende. And when Borrmann finally reduced it to 2: 4 (28th), it took just 47 seconds for Jons Manger - standing in front of Mende - to restore the old gap. Erdings coach released his goalkeeper, who was really not to blame, and sent Christoph Schedlbauer between the posts.

In the final third, coach Vogl tried everything again and rearranged the ranks.

The Gladiators threw everything forward, but were caught off guard with the 6: 2 for the Mighty Dogs by Hood (47th).

Erik Modlmayr shortened by return of post - only 66 seconds later - to 3: 6, but the Schweinfurters could not take the win and played the game to a sovereign end.
