Today, the World Health Organization classified the new mutated strain of the Corona virus, which was detected in South Africa, as "alarming", calling it "Omicron".
Reuters quoted WHO spokesman Christian Lundmeier as saying in a press conference today that the organization's experts intend to exchange their recommendations with governments on what measures can be taken to confront this new strain.
He added that "countries must determine what is related to travel procedures based on an assessment of risks," noting that researchers are working to determine the speed of the spread of the new variant, its transmissibility, and how it affects the treatments and vaccines used for Corona.
It is noteworthy that “Omicron” is the fifth strain of corona to be placed in the new classification.
European and Asian countries have tightened travel restrictions to their lands, after a new mutated strain of the Corona virus was detected in South Africa, and an infection with this mutant was recorded in Belgium.
